One Response to “DEWALT Drill 1/2″- 7.8 Amp,0-850 RPM,Grounded”

  1. DeWalt continues to provide only key chucks for its heavy duty 1/2″ drills and they are terrible. I tighten them using all 3 holes and retighten them after the first 5 seconds of drilling, and then again after another 30 seconds. Whether I am using 1/4″ or 7/16″ arbors or drill shanks the chuck loosens immediately. We had the same problem with a DW249 so it is clearly the poor design or quality of the DeWalt arbor.

We were cutting a lot of holes in Advantech subflooring and making good progress with the new Universal TCT hole cutters from Blue Boar and using both DeWalt and Milwaukee 18v cordless drills. We wanted to see if the corded drill would work any better but had so much trouble with the chuck loosening that we went back to using the cordless drills.

BLUE BOAR 4-1/4″ (108mm) Super Duty Universal TCT 2-1/4″ deep tungsten carbide hole saw cuts more materials faster than any other hole saw. Hard RA 90-91 carbide teeth for faster cutting and longer life ultra deep side gullets for faster plug removal

In some ways the cordless work better with tough materials as they are less likely to spin the user around if the bit sticks – easy to do with a regular hole saw (part of the reason our guys like the new TCT hole cutters).

I can’t comment on the carry case as DeWalt does not provide one and it costs more than $40 to buy one from DeWalt.

In theory this should be a great 1/2″ drill looking at the specs, but in actual use it is pretty much worthless.
